It was brilliant sunshine for this years Pen-Y- Ghent fell race from the show field of Horton Gala to the summit and back, following in part the 3 peaks route on the way out and then back through Whitber Pastures. Local lad Mark McGoldrick had an early lead with Ted Mason not far behind. However some misleading flags on the way down from the summit meant many runners, including those at the front, took a longer route than necessary to Hull Pot instead of the direct route. This allowed Ted a chance to catch up and get in front by picking a different line. Those who’d read the map and didn’t just follow the crowd made up valuable places by following the direct line.
